Generic Drugs (GDs) market is booming now-a-days. Many new companies after seeing the range of profits in the Generic drugs industry are trying to enter the field of generic drugs.  Jubilant Organosys, a Contract manufacturing firm, is planning to make big investments in the generic drugs space. Jubilant Organosys is well known name in the market of branded drugs. Jubilant already has a good range of products that are sold as the generic versions of the drug. Jubilant is now planning to file applications to sell 10 new generic drugs whose patents are expired in the European and the United States markets every year. These drugs will be manufactured in the new plant in India.

Jubilant Organosys new plant is in Roorkee (India). The new plant is developed according the international standards. The company’s new plant recently received the regulatory nod and is approved by the European drug regulators association. Jubilant Organosys is expecting to get the standard certificates from the Food and Drug Administration in United States within the period of next 6 to 7 months. So Jubilant Organosys will be able to sell its new range of generic drugs in both American and European markets.

Jubilant Organosys will be bringing the new drugs in the category of cardio vascular system (CVS), respiratory, anti-infective, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems (CNS). “The promotion and marketing of these generic drugs would be done through the agreement with drug marketing companies in the Europe and United States,” a company executive told in a press conference. Though, none of the company’s filings is first-to-file (FTF) applications. Generic drugs get 180 days marketing exclusivity with the innovator’s drug if it is an FTF application upon patent expiry.

According to the market surveys United States is the world’s largest generic drug market. In next 3 to 4 years, around $80-100 billion drugs are expected to lose their patent protection. Thus, generic companies are targeting the United States market by launching generic drugs in the United States. Jubilant Organosys is presently having around nine generic drugs in the United States market from its US subsidiary Cadista Pharmaceuticals’ plant in Maryland (NJ). Still five new generic drugs are pending for the approval. Jubilant Organosys had acquired Cadista, a generic pharmaceutical company, in 2005.

Presently, generic drugs are contributing nearly 3% of Jubilant’s total sales of Rs. 1,976 crore in 2007-2008. Jubilant Organosys is trying to raise the sales of generic drugs to about 10-12% in the next economical year. Jubilant Organosys will be investing about 100 crores in the research, manufacturing, and clinical trails of these new generic drugs. Jubilant Organosys also has the plans to increase the sale of generic drugs and capture at least 15% market of generic drugs in United States and European markets.

Jubilant Organosys is planning to increase the value chain which will help it in increasing its sales. Jubilant Organosys is already manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for several big giants in the field of generic drugs. The clinical trials and research of the new generic drugs would be done at the Jubilant Organosys research facilities in India. Jubilant Organosys is also planning to get this drugs soon in the Indian market and then in the American and European markets.
