Sildenafil when taken on regular basis lowers the blood pressure (BP) in the patients with hypertension. Scientists in United Kingdom have claimed that Sildenafil can be used as the antihypertensive agent. They also made a point that regular use of Sildenafil lowers the risk of high BP in the patients. Thus, they finally concluded that Sildenafil can be used to treat high BP.

The doses of Sildenafil were low as compared to the doses used to treat the erectile dysfunction. The doses were given for the 1 week and then the systolic and diastolic BP at nighttime and daytime was checked.

In 1 week duration 4/3 Hg decrease was observed. When the doses were continued for the 2 weeks, the decrease observed in the daytime BP was 8/6 Hg and 10/8 mg in the nighttime. Hence it was clear that Sildenafil keeps the BP of patients suffering from hypertension in control.
